The Global Pro-Justice Movement – A Panel

As part of Israeli Apartheid Week, Students for Palestinian Rights invites you to attend a panel on Palestinian and global pro-justice movement.

The Speakers:


Frank Barat:

Frank Barat, a human rights activist based in London, will give a brief historical overview of the work of the Russell Tribunal, including the Vietnam and South America tribunal of the 70s and will then focus on the Palestine tribunal with a strong emphasis on the last session in Cape Town, that concluded that ‘Israel’s policies against the Palestinian People were in breach of the prohibition against Apartheid in International Law’. His presentation will then address the global pro-justice movement and look into the need to internationalize the struggle.

Frank Barat is the coordinator of the Russell Tribunal on Palestine, a popular tribunal created in 2009 to expose and examine Israel’s impunity in regards to its treatment of the Palestinian People. He has edited two books; ‘Gaza in Crisis’ with Noam Chomsky and Ilan Pappe, and ‘Corporate Complicity in Israel’s Occuption’ with Asa Winstanely. He has also participated in the book ‘Is there a court for Gaza?’ with Daniel Machover. He writes for Counterpunch, Al Jazeera English, The Electronic Intifada, The New Internationalist, the Palestine Chronicle, Ceasefire Magazine and other publications.

Sriram Ananth:

Joining Barat as part of a panel discussion following the lecture will be Sriram Ananth, relating the Palestine solidarity movement to the Kashmir struggle, as well as a Patricia Veena Phillip, a 2nd year science student at UW and who will be talking about the Tamil struggle.

Sriram Ananth is an activist and writer currently living in Toronto. He has been active on issues surrounding Palestine solidarity, anti-imperialism, gender justice, and labour struggles in India, the US, and Canada for over a decade. He is a member of the Coalition Against Israeli Apartheid in Toronto and is completing his PhD in Political and Economic Geography from the University of Minnesota.
